How to get from Gimpo Airport to Seoul

Gimpo Airport (GMP) is in Gangseo-gu on the west side of Seoul itself, so it's far closer to the city center than Incheon. Besides domestic flights it handles short international routes, such as Tokyo Haneda, Osaka Kansai, Shanghai Hongqiao and Taipei Songshan. Getting into town is quick and cheap by subway or taxi.

Taxi figures are Gimpo Airport's own estimates: the minimum fare with no traffic, for a regular taxi. Tolls are extra and paid by the passenger. Van prices are per vehicle for 2 passengers and 2 suitcases in the daytime, tolls included.

By subway and AREX

Follow the subway signs from arrivals to Gimpo Airport Station. One transit card (T-money) works on every line.

  • AREX: about 23 minutes to Seoul Station for ₩1,750 with a transit card, also stopping at Digital Media City, Hongik Univ. (Hongdae) and Gongdeok.
  • Line 9: runs east through Yeouido and Gangnam to Songpa. Express trains skip many stations.
  • Line 5: runs through Yeouido and Gwanghwamun to Jongno and Dongdaemun.
  • Gimpo Goldline and Seohae Line: for Gimpo City, Bucheon and other parts of Gyeonggi.

By taxi

  • Taxi stands are outside arrivals at both terminals, including stands for deluxe and jumbo taxis.
  • Gimpo's estimates for a regular taxi: about ₩15,000 to Hongik University, ₩20,000 to Myeongdong, ₩22,000 to City Hall and ₩28,000 to Gangnam Station or Jamsil, before traffic and tolls.
  • Seoul taxis add 20% from 10pm to 11pm, 40% from 11pm to 2am and 20% from 2am to 4am; deluxe and jumbo taxis add 20% from 10pm to 4am.

What about airport buses?

Gimpo lists only a few limousine bus routes, mainly to southwest Seoul and nearby cities (for example 6003 to Daerim via Magok, Mokdong and Guro). For Myeongdong, Gangnam, Hongdae or Jamsil, the subway or a car is simpler.

Private van from Gimpo

From Gimpo a regular taxi is cheap, so a van is mostly worth it for families and groups, big luggage, golf bags, destinations outside Seoul, or when you want a driver already waiting with your name and a price fixed in advance.

These are per-vehicle prices for 2 passengers with 2 suitcases arriving in the daytime. Bigger groups ride in a Hyundai Staria (up to 8) or Solati (up to 13), and pickups between 10pm and 4am include a night surcharge. The price you see before booking already includes all of it.
